It's no secret that the Oklahoma Sooners have inquired about addressing the offense throughout the spring transfer portal. They are already off to a strong start by picking up running back Jaydn Ott and offensive lineman Jake Maikkula, both of whom seem poised to have significant roles in 2025.
The Sooners are now focused on adding talent at wide receiver and tight end to boost their offense and surround John Mateer with as much talent as possible. They are aiming to do just that, aiming to add an intriguing dynamic tight end prospect. Oklahoma will be bringing in Missouri State tight end Lance Mason for a visit this week.
Mason is currently the Sooners' number-one priority in the portal right now, and it's easy to see why on film. Mason's 590 receiving yards led the FCS last season, and his six touchdowns tied him for third place.
The Bears' offense didn't feature him often as a downfield threat, scraping up underneath targets to let him rumble downfield and break tackles after the catch. His 425 yards after the catch lapped the rest of the FCS, taking a full 104-yard lead over second place. Those 425 yards after the catch would have put him in third place in the FBS as well, behind just top 2025 NFL Draft prospects Harold Fannin Jr. and Tyler Warren.
The Sooners' tight end room is easily their most unproven unit and the weakest room on the roster. Pittsburg State transfer Will Huggins is set to be their top tight end, with converted linebacker Jaren Kanak flashing enough to have climbed the depth chart here.
Mason would easily be their best receiving threat in a room that desperately needs some playmaking added to it. They'll just have to beat out other schools in his recruitment.
