The Snow is almost all melted, and the roads are now very driveable in Norman, Oklahoma as the basketball season is well underway, with both the women's team and men's teams having good seasons so far. For the football program though, they are about to kick off their 2025 offseason.
This offseason is maybe one of the most important ones in a very long time. This is the offseason that will basically determine how the season will go for head coach Brent Venables, who is certainly on the hot seat. If 2025 is anything like the last one, Venables won't be in Norman anymore.
And, that sounds harsh but it's that simple.
So, the players are getting straight to work. For the guys who transferred to the Sooners, move-in day was just a few days ago, and those guys had to do all of that, moving into dorms and things of that nature, with the snow and ice that was still in Norman.
As we saw from Deion Burks, the players are getting to work. They know how important this season is not only for the program and Venables but also for some of those players as well. Burks chose not to enter the draft and go back another year, for his last year.
Guys like R Mason Thomas, who maybe could have gone on day one in the NFL Draft, or as late as day two, came back for another season.
So, yeah, this year is important, and they are going to work like everything is on the line.
