Oklahoma Sooners' future on one key side of the offense is brighter than most think despite dreadful 2024 season

The Oklahoma Sooners have had a terrible offensive year, which is surprising considering what they have been in the last ten years or so. But, that was then, this is now. The Sooners are now a defensive team that struggles to even get a first down on offense. And, that's been their identity all year long.
But, it's safe to say there is a bright spot in their offense that looks very bright for the future of this team moving into next year, and even after that. The Sooners have a great young core group of running backs. Their true freshmen are all amazing, and now it's just up to the offensive line to do their job for the next few years.
They have, of course, Taylor Tatum, who has been the best running back all year long but has dealt with some pretty big injuries. After that, we saw a guy in Sam Franklin during the Temple game have a huge effect on that game. He has shown some big flashes of what he can be when he develops.
And of course, last week we saw Xavier Robinson, who against the Missouri Tigers, had a drive named after him. He tallied 48 rushing yards on seven carries on that drive. He was absolutely amazing.
"He was fantastic," Brent Venables said of freshman running back Xavier Robinson after the game. "He was kind of building off of what he showed last week as well. He got in and did well early on those early snaps that he got in, so I just went with him because he was running through trash, had good instincts, ran well behind his pads, broke a lot of tackles, and really helped us move the ball down the field to score."
Not only are these three true freshmen great, but the Sooners have some really good guys at the position committed for the future, too.
They have Tory Blaylock, a three-star RB from Houston, Texas coming in next year, along with four-star Jonathan Hatton Jr. in 2026, who just received an offer from Ole Miss. The future of the RB position is very bright for the Sooners.
And, hey, their offensive line recruiting is going well right now as well, which means that the running game could easily be much better than we are used to seeing with the blocking. So, there is hope, Sooners fans. But, only time will tell if that positive hope turns into a positive reality.
2026 4-star running back committed to Oklahoma Sooners just got a very enticing offer from SEC foe
That would be a crazy flip.
