The Oklahoma Sooners are committed to building as deep a roster as they can for the 2025 football season.
One of their main focuses in the fall was ensuring the depth of their offensive tackle room, adding Derek Simmons, Michael Fasusi, Ryan Fodje, and Luke Baklenko to a room that already returned Jake Taylor, Jacob Sexton, and Logan Howland.
Now, they are turning their attention to shoring up the inside of their offensive line, with one high-priority target already set to take a visit to the Sooners.
Stanford offensive lineman Jake Maikkula will take a visit to Oklahoma this week. Additionally, Maikkula will also visit the UCLA Bruins.
Maikkula entered the portal after the firing of head coach Troy Taylor. Stanford players have a 30-day window to portal after his announcement.
He has spent three seasons with the Cardinals, appearing in all 12 of Stanford’s games last season and starting 11 of them. Maikkula has started at both center, left guard, and right guard.
This past season, he allowed just three sacks and 19 pressures while rotating from left guard to center, including an impressive shutout of Clemson's defensive line with zero sacks and pressures allowed. He's accumulated over 1,100 snaps in two seasons. He would have two seasons of eligibility wherever he plays, thanks to his redshirt season his first season.
For the Sooners, I have to imagine they are looking at Maikkula as their backup center behind Troy Everett. As talented as Everett is, he has battled injuries throughout his career and hasn't played a full season in his career. It's better to be safe than sorry at such a valuable position at center, and having a proven player there is a good step in avoiding the disaster that happened last season for Oklahoma.
