Ever since he was hired as the general manager of the Oklahoma Sooners, Jim Nagy repeatedly emphasized that one of his main goals was to create an NFL-style front office for the Sooners to lead them in college football's impending "free agency" era.
Now, the Sooners have taken their first steps into building out that front office. On Tuesday morning, the news broke that Oklahoma is hiring Taylor Redd as their assistant general manager under Nagy.
Redd brings experience at both the collegiate and NFL ranks. He got started as a student assistant at Bowling Green from 2010 to 2013 before becoming a recruiting assistant at Wake Forest in 2014. Redd eventually worked his way up to becoming the Director of Player Personnel at Wake in 2017, helping form Wake's 2017 and 2018 recruiting classes, landing future NFL players in Ja'Sir Taylor, Zach Tom, Michael Jurgens, Sam Hartman, and A.T. Perry.
His success there saw him get a call up from the pros. The New England Patriots hired him as an area scout in 2018, where he served in their front office until they parted ways with Bill Belichick last year in 2024. While what area he scouted hasn't been made clear, the Patriots landed some key players during his tenure there like Kyle Dugger, Anfernee Jennings, Michael Onwenu, Christian Barmore, Rhamondre Stevenson, Marcus Jones, Christian Gonzalez, Keion White, Demario Douglas, and Drake Maye.
Nagy and Redd will be in charge of scouting and organizing contracts for the Sooners, operating quite literally like an NFL team. The duo will continue to be filling out Oklahoma's front office with other talented scouts while also gearing up to influence the Sooners' upcoming spring portal window, as well as the 2026 recruiting class.
Between Nagy and Redd, there's over 25 years of NFL experience working with some of the best organizations in the sport.
Not a bad start for the Sooners.
