This weekend, the Oklahoma Sooners are playing host to a slew of talented recruits out of the 2027 class as part of their “Future Freaks” weekend. A cavalcade of commits and offers will be in Norman for one of their biggest recruiting events of the offseason.

One of those offers is four-star quarterback Jamison Roberts out of Alabama. The four-star has been Oklahoma’s top priority at quarterback ever since Ben Arbuckle took over as offensive coordinator, and the fruits of that heavy pursuit have delivered, as Roberts announced his commitment to the Sooners on Saturday.

Jamison Roberts a key victory for Oklahoma

A formerly unranked three-star recruit from Alabama, Oklahoma has gunned hard for Roberts, and the rest of the country took notice. He rose into the 18th-ranked quarterback spot and the 250th-ranked player in the entire country, picking up that coveted four-star spot. Roberts has picked up offers from the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida Gators, South Carolina Gamecocks, Auburn Tigers, and Ole Miss Rebels in recent months, but the Sooners were there from the get-go, and it helped them pull .

The Sooners have their quarterbacks set for the 2026 season with John Mateer returning and Bowe Bentley’s arrival from the 2026 class. However, when Mateer graduates, Oklahoma doesn’t have a current backup behind Bentley. Roberts can step in to fill that gap and push to compete for the starting job with Bentley early on.

Roberts is a good dual-threat quarterback with plenty of size at around 6’2. He’s not a particularly dynamite athlete as a runner in terms of his speed or explosiveness, but he can carve up teams on the ground and can break tackles in the open field. He’s still developing as a passer (only one season as a starter), but he flashed some intriguing arm talent and ability to throw from multiple angles and on the run.

The Sooners now have the future of quarterback secured with Bentley and Roberts under center, helping ease the tension built up over years of having to rely on the transfer portal for a starter.
