The Oklahoma Sooners finally got their quarterback after having the best history of quarterbacks you can have in the last decade or so. The Sooners know nothing but Heisman-winning QBs, but last year was the exact opposite, as two QBs played bad football.

Now, granted, it wasn't all Jackson Arnold's fault, or even Michael Hawkins — the offense as a whole was bad with a bad scheme, the offensive line was bad, and the Sooners dealt with some of the worst injuries in the entire country. Let's not forget, Oklahoma once played without their top five wide receivers.

But, that was last season, and 2025 looks to be a better year based on everything we know. The Sooners have an elite quarterback, one of the best in the country in John Mateer, and he's about as versatile and dynamic as they come.

In fact, one legend even compares him to the greatest running back of all time. Yes, you read that right.

“He's brave, he's brave in the pocket, and when he wants to run or needs to run, he is super athletic. He reminds me a little bit of Barry Sanders, where he stops and goes lateral," Brian Bosworth told The REF. "It doesn't take much to get him to go vertical, north and south, with much acceleration. He's a dynamic QB."

Now, I wouldn't compare him to Barry Sanders, the former Detroit Lions QB that is considered the greatest running back of all time — especially when you factor in that Mateer is a quarterback. But, Bosworth doesn't mince words, and if anyone knows what they're talking about, it's him.

It must feel good to know, though, that the Sooners have a guy who is an elite ball thrower and an elite runner, and with these weapons in this offense, that's going to be crazy to watch.
