The Oklahoma Sooners have not stopped losing players to the transfer portal, and now, with the bowl game being over, one that saw Oklahoma lose to Navy, we should see a few more players enter the portal. And, we have already seen that as early as Sunday morning.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, the Sooners have lost another defensive player that they likely could have used as a depth piece in 2025.
Sooners LB Lewis Carter to enter transfer portal
Lewis Carter joined Oklahoma in July 2022 following a standout high school career at Tampa Catholic in Florida, where he was a four-star recruit. Opting for Oklahoma, he turned down offers from top-tier schools like Auburn, Clemson, Florida, and UCF.
Known for his versatility, Carter played both linebacker and running back, earning recognition as an Under Armour All-American. His athletic talent extended to track, where he helped his high school's 4x400m relay team.
During his freshman year, Carter appeared in all 13 games, mainly contributing on special teams while also serving in a backup role at linebacker. He amassed seven tackles, including half a tackle for loss, and was pivotal on special teams, notably for forcing and recovering fumbles.
As he progressed into his sophomore season, Carter has shown substantial improvement, particularly noted during the offseason workouts. His coaches and teammates have praised his athleticism and potential, suggesting he could play a more significant defensive role.
His physical build, standing at 6 feet and weighing between 200-225 pounds, complements his speed and agility, making him a standout in the weight room. Carter has cemented his reputation as a vital special teams player, with his hard-hitting approach and knack for causing turnovers in open play.
