The Oklahoma Sooners are looking to go undefeated for the second week in a row after a big-time win over the Temple Owls, one of the worst FBS teams in the country, to now playing the Houston Cougars, one of the worst Power Four teams in the country. They may not be the exact worst — Florida may have that title under wraps, or even South Carolina, but they are pretty bad. This Week 2 game should be a beatdown nonetheless.
The Cougars are coming off a 20-point loss to the UNLV Rebels, a team that has the potential to be the one Group of Five team to make the College Football Playoff. If they, an obviously lower team compared to the Sooners, can dominate the Cougars, imagine what happens on Saturday night.
In the Sooners' big-time win over the Owls, they sustained some injuries, like wide receiver Jalil Farooq breaking his foot on what was a perfect pass from Jackson Arnold, and center Branson Hickman getting hurt as well. A few others got banged up, too, and as a result of these injuries, the Sooners made just a few changes to their official depth chart for the week.
The first noticeable one is the fact that Farooq isn't listed, but J.J. Hester is in his place. Hester really struggled last game, with a dropped touchdown on what would have been the best play of the game, and a dropped wide-open first down catch. Let's hope he bounces back.
Geirean Hatchett is listed at right guard and on the second string. Branson Hickman and Joshua Bates are both listed as the starter with an OR separating the two of them at the center position, which tells me that just in case Hickman isn't ready to go on Saturday, Bates will be.
There really aren't any other things that stick out. Maybe Zion Ragans is on the depth chart now, but even so, he's listed as the third-string WR. The Sooners are ready for the Cougars no matter what the depth chart looks like, even if they aren't taking Houston lightly.
Can the Oklahoma Sooners Fix Their Offensive Line Before SEC Play Begins?
Entering their 2024 season, the main worry on the minds of Sooners fans was the state of the offensive line. Fresh off of losing all five starters (four to the NFL, one as a transfer) and still recovering from the shambles of years of Lincoln Riley's recruiting, the offensive line brought in several transfers at […]
