The Oklahoma Sooners have constantly had bad news this year, and it's mostly revolved around injuries. There aren't many, if any, power four schools with more injuries, or more significant injuries than the Sooners have had this season.
The majority of the bad news that has pertained to injuries has come on the offensive side of the ball. I mean, the Sooners were without their top-five wide receivers in just the last game against the Auburn Tigers. They have been without their second and third-best wide receivers almost all season long, and of course, their veteran guy in Andrel Anthony as well. Nic Anderson will continue to be out.
Even with everything going against them, the Sooners have still had very high expectations for their offense. So much so, that they still pulled Jackson Arnold because things weren't going correctly. Even with the injuries, bad play calling, and everything else, when he committed the turnovers he did and set the defense in bad field position, that was all she wrote. The expectations are high.
When they switched from Arnold to Michael Hawkins, he was able to make something out of nothing. No, literally, with all the injuries the Sooners had, he was still able to produce plays and be a playmaker against the Tennessee Volunteers and the Tigers.
Now, he gets the best news he's had since being a starter.
On Monday night during Brent Venables' coaches show, he explained that the Sooners will soon be getting back a few weapons. Well, they hope they will be.
Jalil Farooq, who broke his foot in the first game of the year is about to get out of his boot. He said "We will see," where Deion Burks is in a few days, and he said Andrel Anthony just had another cleanup procedure and is feeling great. That could be fantastic news for the offense and Hawkins.
