The Oklahoma Sooners have had a string of bad news the last few weeks, and it doesn't seem to be getting any better until Friday afternoon.
After news of Zac Alley, the linebackers coach, and the assistant general manager all leaving, the Sooners took a very drastic hit. I mean, let's just be honest for a second. This is Oklahoma, and losing staff members to West Virginia to take the same title of job is pretty embarrassing and paints a negative light on the program.
But, after all that bad news, and while the Raiders are still trying to find a new defensive coordinator, they got some good news.
Sooners' stud announces return
On Friday, Kendel Dolby announced that he will be returning to the team in 2025, which is huge when you factor in how many key players they have lost to the transfer portal.
Kendel Dolby, a defensive back for the Oklahoma Sooners, made a significant impact in the 2024 season before an unfortunate injury sidelined him. He began the year impressively, especially in the opening match against Temple, where his defensive prowess was on full display.
Dolby operated in the cheetah position, a versatile role blending linebacker and defensive back duties, showing off his agility, instincts, and physical toughness by moving around different defensive alignments. In the initial games, Dolby was known for his game-changing plays, including two tackles, a sack, and a pass breakup which resulted in an interception.
However, tragedy struck when Dolby suffered a severe leg injury during the game against Tennessee, necessitating surgery and prematurely ending his season.
Although his season was cut short, his contributions were substantial, cementing his role as a vital component of the Sooners' defense for 2024. His injury was a significant blow to the team, highlighting just how integral he had become to Oklahoma's defensive tactics.
He is looking to come back stronger than ever in 2025.
