Oklahoma Sooners positioning themselves to move away from once priority recruit ahead of pivotal summer
The Oklahoma Sooners are evidently pursuing new targets over a recent slew of visits for 2027 cornerback JuJu Johnson.
The Oklahoma Sooners are building a robust recruiting class of 2027. The class already has 20 commitments after a strong month of March, and it sits atop the country as the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class.
With such a strong class and plenty of options coming in to join the class, the Sooners have to pick and choose their priorities and get the right guys to come in. Evidently, they have already done so with 2027 four-star cornerback JuJu Johnson.
Oklahoma Sooners repositioning their 2027 board
The Oklahoma Sooners have already picked up a pair of cornerback commits in the 2027 class with Mikhail McCreary and Mikyal Davis. They are trending for a third with in-state star Gabriel Osborne, although he has yet to commit.
I’ve heard the Sooners want to bring in either three or four cornerbacks, depending on the right targets. With two already in and potential for a third soon, spots are drying up.
Which might be why the Sooners might have moved on from four-star cornerback JuJu Johnson. Johnson has also apparently moved on, based on recent visits to Nebraska and Miami. In his latest recruiting predictions, SoonerScoop‘s Josh McCuiston took Johnson off of the Sooners’ board for the 2027 class.
Evidently, Oklahoma feels secure in their pursuit of Osborne as the secondary’s final piece.
The Sooners are on pace for their best recruiting class perhaps of all time. Oklahoma has shown no signs of slowing down, with six commitments last month. With plenty more potentially coming down the pipeline, the Sooners can’t afford getting stuck on a player that might not want to be there.
While it’s an unfortunate situation all around, the staff under Brent Venables and Jim Nagy have proven themselves flexible, and this could be a win-win for all parties involved.
