The Oklahoma Sooners did what fans are not used to doing when they played the Tennessee Volunteers at home on Saturday. The last decade, it feels, this has been an offensively dominant team with a sub-par defense. But, that is completely flipped now.
That's not something the fan base is used to, and even in the day when the offense was good and the defense was not, they were still winning big-time games, just in the form of shootouts. What happened offensively Saturday, and what's been happening all season long, cannot happen again, and the man ultimately responsible for it all knows that.
"It starts with me. I have to find better ways to put them in situations to be successful. Too many mistakes. We have to bounce back," offensive coordinator Seth Littrell said on the Sooner Football show with Brent Venables.
The Sooners tried everything, including benching Jackson Arnold for true freshman Michael Hawkins. Luckily for Sooners fans, Littrell is offering optimism that should make fans feel a bit better.
“I think it’s very easily fixable. Just turn on the tape and watch it," Littrell said after the game at the podium. "I’m looking for a guy [quarterback] who can manage the game and can execute at a high level… But it starts with me…”
It sounds convincing, but, if it's an easy fix, why has it not been fixed yet through four games? It didn't look good against the Temple Owls, and your player's reactions were "Oh well, we scored 51 points." It didn't look good against Houston or Tulane and it was just a thing where the mindset was that maybe it will continue to get better.
It got worse. Albeit, against a better defense and a better team, it got worse. The Sooners have to fix the offense. Sure, Jackson Arnold hasn't been great, but he's not the only one at fault. The offensive line is bad, the run game is bad, the wide receivers are all hurt and can't get any separation, and nothing is working besides plays where Michael Hawkins is forced to run out of the pocket. But, that's not sustainable. He's got to fix the offense, or there's a possibility they finish with just a few SEC wins, if any.

There’s some divide over the decision, for sure.
