The Oklahoma Sooners' defense has started on fire, as maybe the best defense in the country, as they held an amazing Tennessee Volunteers offense to 23 points, while also being put in bad field positions from the offense's turnovers.
Now, a lot of things are contributing to this amazing defense, but it cannot be understated how amazing and underrated Kendel Dolby was before his injury.
Dolby suffered a significant injury. It was reported as a dislocated ankle, which occurred in the second quarter against the Vols. So, he will miss some time. Now, Sam Omosigho will likely be the guy who fills in some of those reps at the Cheetah position.
The severity of the injury was such that he was carted off the field, and the entire OU team came to show their support, indicating his importance and the respect he commands among his peers. It was pretty tough to watch because you know what a guy like him has had to do to get where he is today, and that includes his path through the junior college scene to now Oklahoma.
Prior to his injury, Dolby had already made contributions to the team. In the games he played in 2024, he had seven tackles. Looking back to the previous season, he accumulated 49 tackles, showcasing his defensive capabilities and why he was a valued member of the Sooners' defense, with four pass breakups, too.
On Wednesday, he made a Twitter post with an update on his injury and surgery. He let everyone know that the surgery went well, and he was thankful for the fan base and their well wishes.
