The Oklahoma Sooners have enjoyed the elite level play of safety Billy Bowman Jr. over the course of his career in Norman.
The ballhawk safety is tied for first place in career pick-sixes and 14th in interceptions in Oklahoma history, and is one of the most talented defensive backs the Sooners have ever had.
Now, as he goes on to the NFL, his NFL stock is fairly high. Bowman is consistently ranked among the top safeties in the upcoming NFL Draft and is projected to be selected somewhere on Day 2 of the draft.
Bowman was named an "ideal" pick for the Seattle Seahawks, according to SeahawksWire.
"The Seahawks released veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins from his contract earlier this season. The team signed special teams ace D'Anthony Bell in free agency, but better depth is required behind starters Coby Bryant and Julian Love. Billy Bowman Jr. is an experienced ball-hawk with 11 career interceptions."
Bowman is an interesting fit with Seattle, but I do believe he would be an upgrade in the room and could start over both Bryant or Love moving forward.
I'd be intrigued to see what Mike Macdonald could craft with Billy Bowman on his team. Bowman was deployed all across the field and handled a vast amount of responsibilities for the Sooners, and Macdonald would likely use him in a similar vein.
He is at his best when roaming deep, but has extensive experience in the slot and has the cover skills of a cornerback. If Seattle wants to deploy multiple safeties at once, similar to what Macdonald's protégé Jesse Minter runs with the Los Angeles Chargers, Bowman could be their missing chess piece to move around the formation.
