The Oklahoma Sooners have lost a lot of players on the defensive side of the ball, despite having one of the best units in the country last year. But, that's not why some are leaving — some of them are because they want a better opportunity in terms of playing time.
This roster was stacked on the defensive side of the ball last year. And we are seeing former Sooners players go to schools where they will have a ton of playing time. One stud just did that.
Oklahoma Sooners LB Lewis Carter transfers
From Tampa, Florida, Lewis Carter was a standout recruit, joining Oklahoma as a four-star athlete in the 2023 class, ranked as the 17th-best linebacker and 172nd overall by the On3 Industry Ranking.
At Tampa Catholic High School, he was known for his defensive prowess, amassing over 300 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks, which earned him recognition as a 2022 Under Armour All-American.
In his two seasons with Oklahoma, Carter appeared in 26 games, recording 21 solo tackles and nine assists. Most of his contributions came on special teams, where he notably forced a fumble and recovered a muffed punt in crucial games against Temple and Houston in 2024.
However, with a crowded linebacker roster at Oklahoma, Carter saw limited action, which prompted his decision to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility left. He announced his transfer to UCF in early January 2025, aiming to continue his football journey closer to his Florida roots.
Now, he will get the playing time he needs to fully develop into a player that could be elite. He's a stud, but he's very raw.
