The Oklahoma Sooners don't quite recruit like they used to, but they are still fairly good in that area. Brent Venables knows what he's doing, and he's doing a fine job of stringing together top 20 classes despite two losing seasons in three years.

Even after a season that saw them barely make a bowl game and then end up losing that bowl game to Navy, the Sooners are still recruiting well.

And they're not just recruiting well, they are being relentless, even if it means trying to steal away a recruit from another big-time school.

Sooners working to flip Nebraska CB CJ Bronaugh

CJ Bronaugh, a class of 2026 cornerback from Windermere High School in Winter Garden, Florida, is a top high school football prospect who committed to Nebraska in  2024. At 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, he combines speed, length, and instincts, earning over 20 Power 4 offers from schools like Oklahoma, Florida State, Penn State, Tennessee, and LSU.

In his junior year of high school, he finished with 30 tackles, six interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns, four pass breakups, a forced fumble, and a blocked field goal in seven games.

Bronaugh chose Nebraska after visiting during their UCLA game, impressed by the coaching staff and fan atmosphere. Coaches Matt Rhule and John Butler, a former NFL assistant, are a huge reason why they were able to land the commitment, as high school kids are often enamored by coaches who have coached at the NFL level, and Rhule was the head coach for the Carolina Panthers.

Though committed, he’s still considering visits to Florida, Florida State, and Penn State in 2025. Ranked No. 126 nationally by Rivals and No. 26 among cornerbacks by On3, Bronaugh is a key piece of Nebraska’s 2026 class, but his final college choice could still change. And, the Sooners know that. Oklahoma coach Jay Valai recently visited Bronaugh, showing that they're not giving up on him even though he is committed to Nebraska.

The Sooners are doing whatever they can to land the four-star cornerback and flip him from what is widely considered a blue-blood program.
