Sooners’ recent commit just gave fans an inside look at how his commitment went and a version of Brent Venables we don’t see often
Brent Venables couldn’t have been happier.
The Oklahoma Sooners have secured four-star safety Jaylen Scott for their 2027 recruiting class, further helping them maintain their status as the No. 1 class in the country.
Sooners 2027 safety Jaylen Scott showed everyone how he committed to OU
Scott is a player Oklahoma has long wanted, as he’s an elite safety who can also play in the slot. Once developed, the team could use him in multiple roles on the field. Scott is a major win for OU, and, as shown in the video Scott posted on X, Venables was thrilled when he heard about Scott’s commitment.
Venables was genuinely so happy, and you can tell that he actually loves these players. You hear stories about how much he loves them all the time, and how he is a players’ coach. However, we never really see that in the media; we more often see Venables as a hard-nosed coach who coaches hard.
Scott let us all see it and gave us an inside look at how he let the main man know he was finally committed to the Sooners after they had been pursuing him for so long, and I do mean for so long.
The Oklahoma Sooners hosted a ton of recruits the weekend they were in Norman, beating up on the Michigan Wolverines. That win was huge for the program’s trajectory this season and for recruiting. It was so successful that they accidentally made an Auburn Tigers safety decommit in the 2027 class and commit to the Sooners. That safety was, of course, Jaylen Scott.
“The fans, the atmosphere, the coaches, and the winning culture all stood out to me,” said Scott just after that game. “The facilities are outstanding, and you could tell which program was the true blue blood. I love Oklahoma; it was an excellent experience overall.”
The Sooners have been super busy this past weekend, with literally a handful of commits. And, they are just getting started.
