The Oklahoma Sooners have revamped their wide receiver room by adding Trell Harris, Parker Livingstone, Mackenzie Alleyne, and some true freshmen. So, they went out and got WR Ivan Carreon. Well, they went and got him back, as he initially entered the portal, but chose to rejoin the Sooners.

Retention may be the most important factor in college football today, and the Sooners just secured another key piece.

Ivan Carreon is perfect for what the Sooners still needed in the wide receiver room

With the additions of Harris, Livingston, and Alleyne, the Sooners have been active in the WR market. Wide receivers Josiah Martin, KJ Daniels, Zion Kearney, Carreon, Javonnie Gibson, and Zion Ragins all entered the portal, with Carreon now back with OU.

Eli Merck, Jacob Jordan, Isaiah Sategna, Trey Brown, Jer’Michael Carter, Major Nelson, Jakeb Snyder, Manny Choice, Elijah Thomas, Carreon, and Keontez Lewis are the only guys from last season still on the roster. Only three of those guys really played, and even they didn’t play much. Not to mention, OU will have several freshman receivers, including Jayden Petit, Jahsiear Rogers, Daniel Odom, and Zizi Okwufulueze.

They needed another body, and they needed a big body. They got their guy, as Carreon is 6-6, and a contested catch specialist. The room struggled last season, as did every offensive skill group, will look completely different. Carreon came into a few games this last season and actually made some pretty decent catches. The sophomore played 11 games, mostly on special teams. He had two catches for 35 yards last season and 10 for 89 yards as a true freshman.

Why didn’t they play him more this season when they were dealing with the injuries they dealt with? I’m not sure. However, they could have used him in the red zone. For him to come back as a junior means he probably feels like he will get some playing time. That, or he’s betting on himself.
