Sooners just showed they weren’t fully satisfied with the additions they made to one position group in the transfer portal
The Sooners added another offensive lineman.
Just when you thought the Oklahoma Sooners were done adding players to their 2026 transfer portal class, they add one more. This time, it’s to a position group that they added a few guys to, showing they weren’t satisfied.
Collin Kennedy of 247 Sports reports that the Sooners are adding former Eastern Kentucky offensive lineman Fred Hinton. At 6’4” and 318 pounds, Hinton will likely play inside and give OU much-needed depth. With two years of eligibility, he can develop into a rotational offensive lineman.
Sooners have a good group of offensive linemen for 2026
The starting unit is likely going to be Michael Fasusi (LT), Eddy Pierre-Louis (LG), Jake Maikkula (C), Ryan Fodje (RG), and E’Marion Harris (transfer portal addition RT). The Sooners are also set to have some very good depth at center, with Caleb Nitta, a transfer portal addition, and the other addition, Peyton Joseph.
They are also bringing in a few offensive linemen in the 2026 high school recruiting class, in Noah Best and Deacon Schmitt. Those two have extremely high potential and could find themselves in games where the Sooners are blowing out non-conference teams. Not to mention, OU will have a few guys from last year playing depth roles, or maybe even competing for starting roles.
The Sooners have put together a pretty good group to protect John Mateer. However, they have had decent groups in the past, and it all gets ruined by injuries and a lack of depth. On paper, it seems they will be avoiding that in their offensive line room. Then again, we truly won’t know until we see these guys on the field playing SEC ball.
For now, Hinton seems like a very solid addition to OU.
