Sooners predicted to land another blue-chip player to keep the recruiting momentum rolling
The Sooners need to keep stacking up the elite recruits.
The Oklahoma Sooners hold the No. 3 recruiting class for 2027 and could finish with the top class at next year’s National Signing Day. More recruits will join, as the Sooners are targeting another four-star safety, Jaylen Scott. OU has built a strong connection with him, especially through safeties coach Brandon Hall.
Now, the Sooners are expected to land him with an expert prediction from Rivals’ recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong. If they do, you can book the Sooners being back at No. 1 in the 2027 class, even though they should have been after landing five-star linebacker Cooper Witten.
Sooners 2027 class could have what the 2026 class needed
Chad Simmons of Rivals also reported a while back that the Sooners are the favorites to land Scott, from Mobile, Alabama. Venables, Hall, and defensive line coach Todd Bates recently visited Scott and 2027 quarterback Jameson Roberts before heading to the Senior Bowl. Scott would be a strong addition to the 2027 class.
If OU lands Scott, they will have an elite, blue-chip safety and a player who could play the Cheetah role Oklahoma needs. Meanwhile, in the incoming freshman class, the Sooners only signed two safeties: Markel Ford, a three-star who’s a bit undersized, and Jacob Curry, a three-star who maybe didn’t play the best competition in high school.
Both guys could be stars in their freshman years, similar to how Courtland Guillory excelled in his first season. However, the depth in the secondary, particularly at safety and cornerback, is not good for 2026. Now, they could get that situated and handled, as they did last season with a few positions. However, Scott would have been nice to have in 2026.
On top of all this, the moment that really put Scott onto OU was their game against the Michigan Wolverines. That atmosphere and winning over another blue-blood team are really what made Scott see that OU could be a place he could see himself playing. Now, let’s see if this prediction comes true.
