Sooners are leading the charge for an elite player who can catapult their 2027 class back into first place
The Sooners would love to have Rowe back.
When the recruiting cycle for the 2027 recruiting class first started, the Oklahoma Sooners landed one of the best defensive linemen in the country. Now, they still have a top-four class for 2027 across all recruiting websites. However, it could still be at No. 1 and return to that position based on recent recruiting news.
Sooners could land Zane Rowe, again
On March 13, four-star defensive lineman Zane Rowe will decide which college he wants to start, and hopefully finish, his collegiate career. Rowe was originally committed to the Sooners, but decommitted early in his recruitment. Still, OU has held strong and is in its top four, along with North Carolina, Washington, and the Oregon Ducks.
Building on that momentum, Oklahoma appears to be leading the charge in Rowe’s recruitment. Their recent player development has been a major selling point.
“I love the plan they have for me and my development. Their EDGE guys are constantly winning and constantly eating,” Rowe told Rivals. “R. Mason Thomas, Danny (Okoye) … they grinded it out for their spots. They weren’t as highly recruited as I was, but that track worked for their development, so that speaks volumes. They’re gonna be drafted, and they have guys coming in and working with Coach (Jerry) Schmidt and the strength program. It’s all about their development. They’re selective about who they recruit.”
Rowe could be an edge rusher at the next level, and if he puts on some weight, and the right kind of weight, he could even move inside and play there. He won’t be on campus for another season, so you really don’t know what size he will be when he gets to Norman, if he goes to OU. He’s currently 6’4, 260 pounds. Rowe is extremely strong and has some great technique.
If they re-land Rowe, they would likely jump back up into that No. 1 recruiting class spot. OU currently has Taven Epps, Krew Jones, Elijah Harmon, and Deven Robertson as committed players who play on the DL. However, Epps could be an LB at the next level. Rowe would fit in nicely to the class, as Rivals currently projects the Sooners to land him.
