The Oklahoma Sooners received good news Thursday. With the deadline to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft passing and wide receiver Isaiah Sategna and linebacker Kip Lewis not declaring, both will return for the 2026 season. This outcome was expected, but Sategna made it official with an Instagram post announcing his return.

However, in that Instagram post, he also announced he would change his jersey number. Sategna is switching from No. 5 to No. 1. His caption, “CHOSEN ONE #UNO,” along with a photo of him in the No. 1 Sooners’ Crimson Red jersey, signals the change.

Honestly, it fits him perfectly for this upcoming season.

Sooners WR Isaiah Sategna could be the No. 1 receiver in the SEC in 2026

Despite having such a bad offense in 2025, Sategna was third in the SEC in receiving yards with 965 and 27th in the country. To reiterate, that offense struggled, with little help to take attention away from him. Building on these accomplishments, in 2026, he could be the SEC’s best receiver.

Consider everything the Sooners are bringing in—most notably, a drastically improved tight end room that excels in both run blocking and pass catching. There will also be better receivers around Sategna. The running back room will have more depth and better depth. Not to mention, if it’s healthier, the running game could be better, which only opens up the pass game for Sategna even more.

The offensive line and the court four will have a full year under their belt. The three freshmen from 2025 will enter their second season and are likely to be even better than last season. And most importantly, John Mateer should be fully healthy, even better than before, with some development.

Sategna could be set up for an elite receiver season. In fact, he could be the best receiver in the SEC, so the No. 1 on his jersey is fitting.
