Sooners are on the verge of potentially extending their 2027 class lead with possible addition of elite difference maker
The Sooners are being predicted to land 2027 edge rusher Krew Jones.
The Oklahoma Sooners currently have the No. 1 recruiting class for 2027, with the help of five-star offensive tackle Cooper Hackett and three four-star players. They will only continue to extend that lead pretty soon, that is, if one prediction does come true. According to Blair Angulo of 247 Sports, the Sooners are predicted to land four-star 2027 defensive end Krew Jones from Millville, Utah.
Adding Jones should not only put them as the consensus No. 1 class on all recruiting platforms, but it should also give them a bit of momentum moving forward. Jones is legit and can be a true difference maker.
Sooners are getting a difference maker in Jones, if he does choose Oklahoma
The Sooners needed to add some defensive line pieces for their 2027 class. Of the seven commits they currently have in their 2027 class before Jones, only two are defensive players, and both are cornerbacks. Getting an edge rusher in this cycle was crucial. They currently have four in the 2026 class, but getting at least one or two in the 2027 class is essential.
And, if they do indeed get Jones, they’ve got one of the better edge rushers in the class. Jones is the 20th-best edge in the class and the second-best player in Utah in 2027. Just earlier in the week, the Sooners landed 2026 edge rusher Dane Bathurst, who’s got decent size at the position, the standard high school senior edge rusher size, really. As a current junior, Jones is even bigger.
At 6’4, 225, Jones has the height you like to see from SEC edge rushers, and the long arms to match it. And, just like all of these high school kids, when they get a chance to get into an SEC weight-lifting program, they all can only fill out and get bigger.
When or if the Sooners land Jones, it will only help them land more great players. We’ve seen over the last month or so that the recruiting momentum has worked great in their favor, especially when they’re winning games. The Sooners may have just gotten him over schools like the Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Michigan Wolverines, and Texas A&M Aggies.
