Oklahoma Sooners reveal a special project they have planned that is sure to make them more competitive at home
The Oklahoma Sooners are getting an upgrade to their baseball facilities.
The Oklahoma Sooners Board of Regents met Tuesday to go over some stadium things with the football stadium. In that, there was also some discussion and reveal of a project the Sooners have been working on for a while — the baseball stadium upgrades, renovations, and renderings.
This is a school that, admittedly, has a pretty strong fan base in football and softball, but could use some help in some of the other sports. Whether it’s the Men’s and Women’s basketball team needing a new arena, which is on the docket, or the baseball team needing a new stadium — getting these types of things done is sure to help their home-field advantage.
All of those sports have great teams, and all of them have the potential to make some serious noise in the postseason of their respective sports. However, having a good home-field advantage is crucial. In baseball, their home-field advantage is decent. However, it’s not anything like what they have with softball. Getting a stadium upgrade is exactly what could help with that. When you have a great advantage at home, your team is only going to play better.
The Sooners are putting $45 million into the renovations, and the final completion is set for Spring 2028. Let’s hope the Sooners can put a good team in the stadium, and they could even have a good team this year.
Oklahoma Sooners 2025-26 baseball team outlook and expectations
“Oklahoma baseball will deal with the same crushing reality as every other team in the SEC once again in 2026. The conference is unbelievably loaded and boats depth from nearly top to bottom. A potentially loaded transfer class for the Sooners will play a key cog in replacing some of their top talent that headed to the MLB.
One name to really keep an eye out for is Camden Johnson, a transfer infielder from Wichita State. While Johnson wasn’t the biggest name reeled in by the staff in Norman, his potential is riveting. He’s got a great glove and can play shortstop, second base, and even be outfield depth. Meanwhile at the plate, he was one of the most consistent bats in the AAC in the past two seasons. He’s the perfect sort of Skip Johnson player in the ideal that he is an issue to deal with on the base paths, too. Love the fit here.
Some other notable transfer names are two-way slugger Nolan Stevens, who has legit pop from the left side, L.J. Mercurius, a former UNLV RHP, Nebraska utility man Cayden Brumbaugh, and former Maryland RHP Joey McMannis. There was a clear strategy from the pitching coaches for OU here. Go grab potential. Both of those full-time pitchers have legitimate weekend starter upside. That will be vital for the Sooners as they look to replace both Kyson and Malachi Witherspoon.
As of now, I see Oklahoma as a middle-of-the-pack squad in the conference for the upcoming season, but these huge portal swings could give them a boost into the upper echelon. You have to take risks in college baseball, and the return for this program could be quite exciting. We’ll see how it shakes out for the Sooners.” — Adam Holt, A to Z Sports
