We all know the story of the Oklahoma Sooners' offensive line in 2024. Debuting an entirely new starting unit, the line battled injuries and poor play on occasion throughout the season, limiting an already limited offense.
That feels likely to change heading into the 2025 season for the Sooners. Oklahoma returns virtually its entire starting unit and has upgraded its starters and depth behind them with the additions of players like Derek Simmons, Michael Fasusi, Ryan Fodje, and Luke Baklenko.
However, one young stud for the Sooners has built on a standout freshman season and seems poised to solidify a spot up front for Oklahoma next year.
Per source, sophomore Eddy Pierre-Louis has been the starting left guard with Heath Ozaeta recovering from injury and has been stellar in spring practice. So much so, in fact, that the same source wondered if he would lose the job even when Ozaeta returned to the lineup.
Pierre-Louis appeared in four games last season, spending all 65 snaps at right guard. Head coach Brent Venables has praised Pierre-Louis as far back as last September and he has impressed in limited showings.
On the flip side of this argument, Heath Ozaeta settled in and locked down the left guard spot for most of the season. Ozaeta allowed just four sacks and 15 pressures, solid production for a first-year starter against an absolute gauntlet of defenders that he saw last year.
Ozaeta's play last year made him an easy projection for me to stick as the starter at left guard in my depth chart projection. However, Pierre-Louis's play in camp making this an argument can only be a good thing for the Sooners, as competition will make both of them better.
An interesting thought experiment could be playing both of them, with Pierre-Louis taking over at right guard. He would have to unseat graduate student Febechi Nwaiwu, who was solid, if unspectacular, for the Sooners last year. How this shakes out could be an exciting battle to keep an eye on for the rest of the offseason.
