Oklahoma Sooners showed one elite 2027 recruit how it’s done in the SEC after leaving him in awe during his recent visit
The Oklahoma Sooners blew away 2027 DL Elija Harmon for his first SEC game.
The Oklahoma Sooners’ win over the Michigan Wolverines has already given the program a big boost, no matter if you feel like the opponent was actually good or not. That win helped OU’s recruiting in a big way, and it will only start to snowball the further into SEC play they go.
That win helped so much that 2027 four-star defensive lineman Elija Harmon was in awe after the game.
“It was great,” Harmon told Rivals. “I felt like they definitely opened my eyes to how much they really can provide. They can only text me and call me so much, but I was able to finally see what they do, and I really liked it. I really appreciated how much love they showed me. The game atmosphere was lit. They striped the stadium and everything, so I definitely liked the atmosphere. The trip was definitely worth it. I’ve never been in an SEC atmosphere before, so for the first time, it was definitely something to remember.
“Their [Brent Venables and Jim Nagy] message to me was whenever I’m ready to commit, when I’m ready to come there, the door is always open. Just really that I’m a top priority in this class. They were telling me a little bit about the school, and then I talked to Coach Bates more about how they’d use me on the d-line. They’re going to use me to my strengths. My strength is my athleticism, so they’d play me to my strengths, which I liked.”
Sooners could use Harmon for their 2027 class
The Sooners haven’t really done much with their 2027 class yet, but it’s still super early. Right now, they just have three-star offensive lineman Luke Wilson and four-star wide receiver Demare Dezeurn. Harmon is a four-star defensive lineman from California whom the Sooners really like and would love to add to their 2027 class.
Now, they are two different players, but there are some similarities between Harmon and starting defensive tackle Jayden Jackson. Both are space and block eaters. They disrupt things, but also have enough power and speed at their size to be effective pass rushers. However, the money is going to be made in the run game.
Harmon is also being pursued, though, by the USC Trojans, Oregon Ducks, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Syracuse. Right now, it appears that USC is leading the charge, with them being his hometown school, but Oklahoma’s hosting of his visit last week, when they beat the Michigan Wolverines, certainly has Harmon thinking the Sooners could be his next home.
