The Oklahoma Sooners are going to be going into their matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide as sort of the odd man out, if you will. Alabama’s QB Ty Simpson is receiving information from the Texas Longhorns’ QB Arch Manning, as well as the Sooners’ biggest rival, on how to beat OU. Texas is gathering information from Alabama on how to beat the Georgia Bulldogs.

“Arch has got a loud mouth, huh? Nah, that’s my guy. We talk weekly. He’s a really good friend of mine. The Red River Rivalry- it was a good game- so I asked him a couple of questions, and he asked me a couple of questions about Vanderbilt and Georgia. ‘Hey, what did you see? What did they do here?’ And just about plays and fronts in general,” Simpson said this week.

Meanwhile, no one is sharing with the Sooners. They’re on their own.

Oklahoma needs to be Alabama for a spot in the College Football Playoffs

I’m sure the Sooners didn’t think this game was going to be played where all of these rivals shared information with one another, but here we are. When players are friends, and they all grow up going to the same camps and things of that nature, it’s kind of hard to stop that from happening. And, Simpson and Manning are very close. I think most players would do this if they could.

The Sooners don’t need that, though. However, they do need a win in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. If they win this game, they’re basically in the College Football Playoffs. That is, of course, if they also beat the Missouri and LSU Tigers, as they should. This game is much more important to the Sooners than it is to the Crimson Tide.

If the Sooners lose this game, they are basically out of the playoff picture. There would be a way for OU to still make it, but there would be so many things the Sooners have to rely on to go their way that would be out of their control. For Alabama, they can afford to lose this game and still likely be in the picture. They have maybe the best win of the year in their win over the Bulldogs.

So, Oklahoma is playing the desperation card here. They want in, and they want it badly. They don’t need outside help.
