Jim Nagy was hired by the Oklahoma Sooners football program to try to help turn them around. They have had two losing seasons in the last three years under head coach Brent Venables, their first losing season at all since the 90s.

With this new era of college football and all the directions it is going with NIL and the transfer portal, the Sooners need help. They specifically needed help with recruiting. So, why not bring in one of the best guys you can?

They hired Nagy, who interviewed for the New York Jets GM job this offseason before taking this job with the Sooners. He got his NFL start as an intern with the Green Bay Packers in 1996 and held scouting positions with the Washington Commanders from 2001-2002, New England Patriots from 2002-2009, and the Kansas City Chiefs from 2009-2013.

They got a guy who knows football. And, we should start seeing the result of that soon. In fact, one guy the Sooners just landed is largely because of Nagy. Tyler Ruxer, the 2026 tight end that the Sooners landed recently, thinks Nagy is on his way to turning the program around.

“I think that was something that was really important to me through this process too, was how much Jim Nagy saw [in] me as a player,” Ruxer told Rivals. “When he got there, I was kind of one of the first guys they really picked up on. You know, he felt like in the tight end room, there was some room to come in and fill a role. And he felt like that could be me. And he’s a guy that has been around a lot of talent throughout his life, and has seen a lot of guys go on to play in the NFL. Having a guy like that, that believes in me and really wants me to come to OU, it meant a lot [because of] his reputation as a recruiter and a scout. So that was really important, having him be all-in on me. I think he’s another guy that wants to be at OU and is passionate about it, and plans on being there for a while.“His reputation as a scout and the connections that he has, all those things that he brings to the table — I think they’re big from a recruiting aspect and a developmental standpoint,” Ruxer said. “All those things [can] elevate OU to the next level. I think he’s going to do a really good job there. I mean, I think he’s [someone] that can really flip OU around and turn them into a championship-contending team again, like they used to be. And I think they’re really going in that direction right now. I think they’re going to be really good this year. As long as they can stay healthy, I think they’ll have a lot of success this year.” – Via Parker Thune, Rivals/OU Insider

Nagy hasn't gotten his hands too deep yet into this class, because he started after the cycle had already started. He has had his hands on a few things, like the transfer addition of Jaydn Ott, and a few high school recruits, but we won't really start seeing what he can do till the 2027 cycle.

But it's clear he is instilling belief in recruits.
