Sooners’ 2026 football schedule release: Oklahoma dealt another bad hand, but this time at a different part of the year
The Sooners football program is going to play a tough 2026 schedule
The Oklahoma Sooners have been dealt a bad hand in terms of their schedule, their first two seasons in the SEC. Both years, they had one of the toughest schedules in the country. But who really has an easy schedule in the SEC? This time, Oklahoma’s football program will have it tough again, but in a different part of the season. The 2026 schedule looks to have plenty of drama for the Sooners.

Sooners have tough first stretch of their season, and could have a tough second stretch
The schedule will be tough, regardless of what happens with these teams this offseason. The SEC is tough every single week, no matter the team. We saw that with the Sooners this season. They won so many one-score games, even against teams that weren’t that great, like the LSU Tigers.
However, this beginning stretch for the Sooners could be very difficult. Oklahoma Wilkins starts with Michigan, which is always a good thing. They have some head coach stuff going on right now that makes things questionable, but they will be a good, physical football team regardless. Then they play a nine-win team in New Mexico. Of course, playing Georgia on the road is tough. A bye week breaks up the madness a bit before they play Texas in what’s always a crazy game. That’s a very tough stretch.
The back half of the schedule could be hard, too. They play two teams who are currently in the College Football Playoff, and one who just missed it had it not been for injuries to the quarterback in Missouri. So, that alone could make it tough. But you never know if those schools will be good again, especially Ole Miss, which will have a completely different head coach and likely a very different roster.
The Gators and Wildcats will also have new head coaches, and South Carolina could be on its last leg again with Beamer out the door if the team’s not winning by then. There are so many unknowns. This could end up being either a very hard or an average schedule for the conference.
