The Oklahoma Sooners got another massive win on the recruiting trail on Tuesday afternoon. This time, it comes on the defensive side of the ball with unique ties to their offense, as well as a former NFL great.

Cooper Witten commits to Oklahoma Sooners

According to reports, Elite 2027 linebacker Cooper Witten has committed to Oklahoma. Witten is the son of NFL legend and new Sooners tight ends coach Jason Witten.

“‘Coach Venables’ resume speaks for itself,” Witten continued. “The success on defense he has had over the years is an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.’” — On3.com

Oklahoma was Witten’s first offer, and they remained in strong contact throughout the process. Of course, the connection with his father played a key role in making this happen as well.

“According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, the world of recruiting combines to see Witten as the No. 25 overall recruit in the 2027 recruiting class. The five-star also rates as a top-two linebacker nationally and a top-four player in the state of Texas.” — 247Sports

Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see how much Witten’s presence may affect recruiting down the road for the Sooners. One of the best players at his position in NFL history can make waves on young athletes, and he has risen through the coaching ranks at a rapid rate for a reason.
