The Oklahoma Sooners have not had the year that they or the entire fan base thought they would have, and, that is disappointing, and even more disappointing when you factor in this being their first year in the SEC. It certainly has not been all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, no one envisioned there would already be a coach fired through seven games.

After the loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks, the Sooners fired offensive coordinator Seth Littrell after another very poor outing by the offense. That's just how the business goes, especially at a prestigious football school like Oklahoma.

They have been the worst offense in the SEC, and one of the worst in all of college football. And, that is unacceptable. But with that, and with a tough schedule the rest of the way as the Sooners look like they could finish with a losing season, does that hurt one of the most important things the Sooners have going?

They are recruiting well right now, but a fire on the coaching staff could impact that greatly. Head coach Brent Venables isn't too worried about that.

“I want guys that commit to the University of Oklahoma… At the end of the day, they have to trust in me as a leader… The vision for us to have a high-powered, explosive offense that recruits want to play for… We’re recruiting against the best in college football… You’ve got to recruit every day… I haven’t heard any or sensed any panic… People understand this is part of the business,” he explained earlier this week.

According to 247 Sports, the Sooners currently have the 11th-ranked class for 2025. They currently have the 12th-ranked class for 2026 and the third-ranked class for 2027, even though it's early.

These are good recruiting numbers for the Sooners. Could they be better, sure, but they are doing well.

Now, this could hurt, or it could help. This could show recruits that they are doing whatever it takes to be better. But, if Venables thinks they are fine, then they are fine. A big win over the Ole Miss Rebels this week, if that's possible, would certainly help.
