Sooners just got a taste of their own medicine in a ‘Freaky Friday’ type of situation

The Sooners lost to Alabama in the same way Alabama lost to them six weeks ago.

“This is a group that got us to our fifth playoff and did, in many ways, to many people, the unthinkable,” Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables told reporters shortly after losing a College Football Playoff game to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Part of that, unthinkable to getting to where they got, was beating Alabama on the road. They did so in a way you don’t often see. Oklahoma didn’t play very well at all on offense and was, in fact, massively out-gained in the game. However, the three turnovers they forced, all of which led to points, and the special teams play were what won them that game.

This time around, the Sooners have gotten a taste of their own medicine.

Sooners have the exact opposite kind of game vs. Alabama

I’m sure everyone has either seen or knows about the movie “Freaky Friday.” Two individuals switch bodies and live the other’s life. This game embodies that movie a bit. Instead of the Sooners being the team that looked worse on the stat sheet but still came out with a win, it was Alabama this time.

Last time, Oklahoma couldn’t move the ball, but forced turnovers. This time, it was Alabama who did it that way. Last time, it was Alabama at home; this time, it was Oklahoma. Last time, it was John Mateer playing badly and Ty Simpson playing well despite the turnovers: this time, it was the other way around.

There are so many other things in this game that you can point towards as opposites of what won Oklahoma the game last time out. This time out, the Crimson Tide actually looked terrible. They looked like a team about to be destroyed by Indiana. And, Oklahoma has some moments on offense that we really hadn’t seen in a long time. They also had some bad moments on offense and some really bad moments on special teams.

Oklahoma just got a taste of its own medicine this time around.
