Sooners cornerback has a scary message for the rest of the SEC regarding Oklahoma’s underrated weapon on offense
Devon Jordan is letting everyone know that Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver Javonnie Gibson is the real deal.
Imagine the Oklahoma Sooners telling people last season that their offense was going to be amazing. Imagine them sending warning shots to the SEC — how weird would that have been, considering they had maybe the worst offense in the country?
This offseason, the offense looks “energized and focused,” one offensive player told me. That doesn’t sound like last season’s offense at all. The scheme is better than what Seth Littrell put out there, and then, of course, the quarterback position is much better, too.
You did in both of those things, and of course, the offense will be better than last year’s. Then again, it’s hard to be worse than they were in 2024. But that’s not the only reason this offense will be better than last year. In fact, this offense has the potential to be one of the best in the country.
That’s because of the running back room they have and the wide receiver room they put together through the transfer portal. From everything we are hearing about the offense from people on site, it has been looking great during fall camp, maybe a night and day difference from last year.
And, they don’t even have everyone healthy yet. Both Gibson guys in the wide receiver room, Jayden and Javonnie, aren’t healthy yet. They will be, they aren’t yet, but they are on the right timeline. And when they do, it will only get scarier. One defensive back is saying the exact same thing but about Javonnie Gibson.
“When he gets back, it’s gonna be trouble for the SEC,” cornerback Devon Jordan said.
Sooners can’t wait to get Javonnie Gibson back
In spring practice, the transfer wide receiver from Arkansas-Pine Bluff got his leg rolled up on, and unfortunately, he broke it. We don’t have a clear timeline, but we do know that he is on track.
When you combine his speed and deep threat ability, as well as his ability to turn nothing into something on some plays, the offense is going to have another wrinkle that just isn’t there as much right now. They have guys who can do that, like Deion Bucks and Isaiah Sategna, but adding another is only going to make the offense that much better.
Then you have those guys paired with the big body, route runners, and possession guys like Jayden Gibson and Keontez Lewis, and the offense can actually be scary.
So, maybe Jordan is on to something.
