The Oklahoma Sooners still have yet to land a commitment for their 2027 class. That's not anything to worry about or to be up in arms about, but there are some teams that already have players committed.

And, let's just be honest, these are kids, and in the 2027 class, kids that still have a few years of high school left, so a lot can happen between now and then, and a lot of decisions and minds can be changed. But it's still good to get your foot in the door early rather than too late.

The Sooners are now emerging as one team to be on the lookout for when it comes to one of the top safeties in the 2027 class. He's pretty good, and he would be a good fit on the Sooners. And, he would be the first commitment in the 2027 class, Jim Nagy's first full recruitment cycle.

Sooners emerging as team to watch for 2027 safety Honor Fa'alave-Johnson

In their 2026 class, the Sooners only have one safety committed in three-star Niko Jandreau. Their 2025 class has two safeties. So, they do need one safety, at least for the 2027 class. Honor Fa'alave-Johnson could be that guy.

The Oklahoma Sooners aren't in a rush to sign a 2027 recruit just yet, but they are letting some of the kids know that they are interested. And, when those commits happen, they'll happen. For now, they are continuing to allow general manager Jim Nagy to work his first full recruitment cycle while wrapping up the 2026 cycle.

And, his first commitment, if the momentum keeps going their way, could be a safety.

Honor Fa'alave-Johnson is a 2027 four-star safety from Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego, California, and is emerging as one of the most dynamic prospects in the recruiting class. Standing at 6'1" and 185 pounds, his combination of size, speed, and versatility has earned him a No. 7 overall ranking and the No. 1 athlete designation in the 247Sports Composite rankings. It's safe to say getting him would be a pretty big win, although a lot can change.

Fa'alave-Johnson's ability to excel at multiple positions—safety, wide receiver, running back, and cornerback—makes him a rare talent. But, at the college level, it feels like safety is where his home will be on the field. Although having ball skills from playing wide receiver will be key. His athleticism is evident in his explosive playmaking, whether he's delivering hard-hitting tackles on defense or showcasing his speed and hands as a receiver.

With over 30 scholarship offers from top-tier programs like Oregon, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, and Miami, his recruitment has drawn significant attention. Fa'alave-Johnson's recruitment has been highly competitive, with Oregon currently standing out as a frontrunner. But reports from Rivals show that Oklahoma is emerging as a team to watch for, just in case.

Penn State, Texas, Miami, and Oklahoma are the four others to watch for Fa’alave-Johnson, who said he’s not near a commitment yet and could wait through his junior season. – Adam Gorney, Rivals

Despite interest from other powerhouse programs, his repeated visits to Oregon suggest a strong lean toward the Ducks, though he remains open to exploring options as his recruitment progresses. Oklahoma could really shake things up, though.
