Sooners general manager Jim Nagy has a message regarding one 2026 signee that should have the SEC scared for the future

The Oklahoma Sooners feel like they absolutely killed it with their 2026 recruiting class. They ended up with the No. 15 recruiting class, but feel it’s much better than the composite ratings and star rankings suggest. One of the guys they wanted most, was wide receiver Jayden Petit, and you can see why as soon as you turn on his tape.
What the Sooners are getting in Petit should scare the rest of the SEC.
Sooners general manager Jim Nagy loves Jayden Petit
“We feel really good about some of the guys in the ’26 class at wide receiver coming in to help,” Nagy said. “Jayden Petit was a big one for us. We chased him for a long time to flip him from Wisconsin. You’re talking about a 6’3, 222-pound guy. I think just based on the tape, Jayden’s a better player — even right now as a young guy — than a lot of these guys that we’d have to chase and pay a lot of money for in the portal.
“In this day and age in college football, you gotta get your young guys ready to play,” he continued. “This isn’t our dads’ and our grandfathers’ college football. We’re paying these guys a good amount of money out of high school. The acquisition cost after high school is pretty high in many cases. And so you gotta be willing to play them. I think there’s some young guys on this roster [where], rather than going in the portal, we gotta allow them to play.”
The Sooners love what Petit brings, and they think he could be a legit factor in what they do next season on offense. Similar to the hype freshman wide receiver Elijah Thomas had in the offseason, Petit will be a guy we hear a lot about in fall camp. However, instead of us all being surprised that Thomas doesn’t see the field offensively, I think there is a chance Petit really does get on the field.
And when Petit gets into a college weight-lifting and training program, let alone a top-tier SEC one, it’s going to be scary for other teams in the conference. Package that with the other great receivers they’re recruiting, and this could get really, really scary.
