Sooners GM Jim Nagy just did NFL scout’s homework for them when it comes to DT Gracen Halton
Sooners DT Gracen Halton will be great at the Senior Bowl.
The Oklahoma Sooners have quite a few players who could find themselves on NFL rosters or practice squad rosters next season. Defensive tackle Gracen Halton, one of the biggest leaders on the team, is a guy who could get drafted before Day 3, if all goes well.
When you’re evaluating these players for the NFL Draft, you cannot just look at the box scores and stats. You especially cannot do that with players on the Sooners’ defense. This defense was so good, particularly on the defensive line, that the stat sheet is not going to tell you how good one player is. Halton was amazing, and yet his stats won’t tell the whole story. So, general manager Jim Nagy will help NFL scouts know what to look for when it comes to Halton participating in the Senior Bowl
“Gracen’s draft stock will rise in Mobile because he’ll be tough to handle in 1-on-1, and NFL teams will appreciate the juice he brings to interviews. His energy and leadership will be missed in Norman next year. You earned this, Gracen! #BoomerSooner.”
GM Jim Nagy knows a bit about NFL scouts and the Senior Bowl
Nagy was once an NFL scout for the New York Jets and some other organizations. He was also once the president of the Senior Bowl, in that he pretty much set everything up down there in Mobile, Alabama.
So, if anyone knows anything about how to evaluate talent as they get ready for the draft, but also the Senior Bowl, it’s Nagy. In fact, you should listen to every single thing Nagy says when it comes to those two things being packaged together.
Halton was amazing this season when it came time to win a one-on-one rep in the clutch to get to the quarterback to sack him. Sure, it helps that dominant guys like David Stone, Damonic Williams, and Jayden Jackson were next to him, eating up the double teams they did. However, Halton was just a force in the run-and-pass game. Even still, Halton had 30 pressures, good enough for either most in the country among interior defensive linemen. Halton also had five sacks, good enough for the fourth-most in the country among interior defensive linemen.
National media guys who didn’t watch a ton of the Sooners this season, who go to the Senior Bowl, will love what they see from Halton.
