Sooners head coach Brent Venables now has another reason to be proud of one of his sons
Venables son just landed a high-ranking job.
A month or two ago, Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables got to watch his son, Tyler Venables, have his senior day at Clemson. Venables went as a father and even wore Clemson gear to support his son’s team, which also happened to be the place he used to work before becoming OU’s head coach.
“I don’t get very much of an opportunity to do that, if at all,” Brent Venables said. “It was fun to be there for him, his moment, his journey. Being a coach, sometimes everything’s about you and your career, and the family kind of follows suit. It’s a very relaxing place when it comes to just being able to be ‘dad’ and not make it about you.”
That was a moment that many coaches who are also fathers don’t get very often. For Venables, he now has another reason to be proud of his sons, but this time it’s a different son.
Sooners HC Brent Venables has to be proud of Jake Venables
According to Samford Scoop, Jake Venables, one of head coach Brent Venables’ sons, is the official director of football strength and conditioning at Samford, one of the better FCS programs in the country. Having that position could only help him work his way up to a major FBS program.
Who knows, the Sooners could eventually have Venables’ sons on the staff. Tyler, the defensive back for Clemson, could definitely become a GA at Oklahoma. As for Jake, the Sooners have a good director of football strength and conditioning in Jerry Schmidt.
Venables is obviously a great head coach and one of the best in the country. However, you can also tell he is a great father, especially given his career, which keeps him from doing some things. He’s got to be over the moon for his son, Jake.
