The transfer portal is now open and will close on Jan. 16. From now until then, the Oklahoma Sooners will have to find players in the portal to replace those they have already lost, whether to the portal, to a lack of eligibility, or to the 2026 NFL Draft.

Oklahoma has already scheduled several visits with portal players. On Sunday, they will begin one.

According to Adam Gorney of Rivals, Former Oregon Ducks defensive back Dakoda Fields is set to be at Oklahoma from Sunday through Tuesday on a visit. Gorney’s former team, the Ducks, just beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the College Football Playoff. Next week, they will play Indiana for a shot at the National Championship.

Sooners would be going against a trend if they land Fields

Defensive back isn’t necessarily a position they desperately need, but you never know what moves can be made in the current landscape of college football. However, over the last few years, there have been few instances in which OU has gone to the portal for a defensive back.

All of the guys they recruited from high school and signed out of high school were the ones who made up the CB room last season. As for the safety room, if you want to classify Kendal Daniels as a safety, that’s the only one last season they went to the portal for.

That doesn’t mean that the Sooners won’t do that this go around with the portal, especially if they think Fields has some elite potential. Fields is only a redshirt freshman next season, and with his 6-2 frame and speed, Venables could be interested in seeing how he develops in Crimson and Cream.

Fields only played three games this season, on a minimal snap count. Getting him on campus will help Venables and his staff determine whether they’d like him on the team in 2026.
