Sooners just proved that they are more than deserving of being in the SEC just as much as any team in the conference

When the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns joined the SEC, many believed that the two couldn’t hang in the conference. The two teams’ first seasons in the conference were drastically different, which led some to believe even more that OU doesn’t belong. Oklahoma won just six games and really struggled. This season, they showed why they made the move to the SEC in the first place.

Sooners have second-most All-SEC Team players

With a ten-win season and the Sooners hosting a College Football Playoff game this year, it’s safe to say they are finally making themselves at home. This is the most successful season the Sooners have had in some time, and they did it by proving to everyone they belong in the SEC.

When the All-SEC teams were announced earlier this week, the Sooners had 10 players. Some really, really good players missed the cut, like David Stone Jr., Courtland Guillory, Kip Lewis, and so on. That’s the second most All-SEC players in the country behind only the Georgia Bulldogs. If you ask me, that only proves they are worthy of being in the SEC.

Oklahoma is one of the eight best teams in the entire country, and played what many called their schedule in the preseason, the hardest in the country. They only lost two games, both to great teams in Texas and the Ole Miss Rebels. And they won games against some really great teams on the road. They did that because they have SEC-caliber coaching, and SEC-caliber players.

Actually, they did it because both of those are top-notch, not just SEC-caliber. This program has had a spectacular season, and it can get even better than what it is right now. With a home playoff game against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday, December 19, the Sooners have a chance to win their first playoff game under Brent Venables. That would definitely prove they’re worthy, too.
