Sooners win the race for a transfer portal player from a Group of Five team that almost every SEC team wanted
The Sooners are on fire right now in the transfer portal.
The Oklahoma Sooners have thrived in the transfer portal, landing six commitments in hours on Monday and two more on Tuesday: former Texas Longhorns receiver Parker Livingston and former UTSA defensive tackle Kenny Ozowalu. The Sooners are outpacing other SEC teams for these players. Many SEC schools pursued Ozowalu, but he will join the Sooners.
OU wanted to add at least one defensive lineman, and they’ve done so with a coveted Group of Five player in Ozowalu.
Sooners are getting a great rotational piece in Kenny Ozowalu
The defensive line wasn’t a major need, but the Sooners did require another body after losing Gracen Halton, R Mason Thomas, and Damonic Williams. Ozowalu is not expected to replace all those players or become an immediate star.
However, Ozowalu can come in and be an amazing depth piece for the Sooners or a rotational defensive tackle. We know how Brent Venables loves to rotate guys in and out on the defensive line to keep it fresh during the game. Now, he can do that at a high level still in 2026.
With Halton gone, Jayden Jackson and David Stone project as the 2026 defensive tackle starters. Both could leave after the season for the 2027 NFL Draft.
Though Ozowalu’s stats are modest, his film impresses and highlights his potential as a strong rotational pass rusher who could play inside or outside. His addition directly strengthens Oklahoma’s depth, which is key to the Sooners’ transfer strategy at the position.
Oklahoma isn’t stopping, either, as there’s a belief it could add more great pieces. While nothing is guaranteed in today’s ever-changing landscape, what remains clear is the Sooners have firmly established themselves as a powerhouse in the transfer portal, raising expectations for the 2026 season. Their success last season has brought them to this point, and expectations are this team will only get better.
