Oklahoma Sooners tight end Carson Kent vs Michael Boganowski.

When the transfer portal opened, the Oklahoma Sooners knew that they needed to attack the offensive side of the ball hard. And, they did, in some position. Of course, new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle brought his quarterback, John Mateer.

But they also put some good receivers around him, which was huge considering how many guys in that room left last season. They've got speed guys, route runners, and guys who are going to do whatever you need them to do. But one thing they really struggled to get was good tight ends, or so we thought.

It felt like every tight end they were getting was from a small school, where they hadn't had any individual success prior. It would be different if a kid came from a small school and was really good. The kids they got came from small schools and just don't have any numbers at all to back up that they should be playing in the SEC.

So yes, I was a "hater" or a "doubter," if you will. And, I still am when it comes to that position group. But, it's hard to ignore the wiggle and quickness that Carson Kent just showed in one of the best plays so far of the spring football period.

Earlier this week, Oklahoma let the local media attend the first 30 minutes of practice to get some video clips, and the Sooners started practice with 1-on-1s, thankfully. We got to see Kent go up against defensive back Michael Boganowski, who, because of his size and athleticism, should have the advantage there.

But, you would be wrong to assume that. Kent hit him with a shimmy out of his break into his route, and he absolutely lost Boganowski, as he finished the play in the end zone with a nice catch.

Carson Kent played tight end for the Kennesaw State Owls last year. In one season, he caught 18 passes for 217 yards and scored three touchdowns. The 6'4", 240-pound player from Milton, Georgia, is on a quest to prove everyone wrong. And, he's starting that quest pretty well.
