Sooners’ newest weapon Trell Harris can be the next version of Isaiah Sategna but in his own way
The Sooners got a dog in Trell Harris.
It’s uncertain if the Oklahoma Sooners will open 2026 with star wide receiver Isaiah Sategna, who has not announced his return. Anticipating this, the Sooners added top transfer Trell Harris from Virginia. If Sategna returns, Oklahoma will have two elite wideouts. If not, Harris can step in as the main target.
Harris has elite potential. He can make an impact similar to Sategna, but in his own way.
Harris can show major improvement in 2026 with OU than what he did with Virginia
When news broke that OU landed Harris, some winced and checked his stats, seeing he had just over 800 receiving yards in the ACC last season. Still, he was an All-ACC receiver on a team with a balanced offense and a strong running game from both RB and QB.
If you’re going to judge what type of player he’s going to be based on his 2025 season, where he finished with over 800 receiving yards, you had to do the same with Sategna. Before joining OU, Sategna had just 400 receiving yards in a season at Arkansas. Now, no one was causing a fuss about him being “elite,” because most thought Deion Burks was going to be the guy. So it’s safe to say no one looked at Sategna’s 2024 season and thought he would have nearly 1,000 receiving yards this past season.
Harris could do something similar, for all we know. Moving to Oklahoma means playing in the SEC. Sure, he’s playing against better competition now, but he’s also playing with better players now. The better players around you, the easier the game gets. That also means he’s likely playing with a better quarterback.
Oklahoma’s newest weapon could finish the 2026 season with 1,000 receiving yards in the SEC. Even if Harris matches last year’s 847 yards and five touchdowns, he would still be considered an elite college receiver.
