Oklahoma Sooners are already trying to make up for what they missed in their 2026 class with an elite recruit in the 2027 class
The Oklahoma Sooners are trying to get a wide receiver for their 2027 class, and are interested in Zerek Sidney.
If you ask any Oklahoma Sooners fan how their team has been performing lately in terms of recruiting, they’d probably say they have been terrible. And that’s fair, especially when you think of the standard this football program is held to.
But their recruiting hasn’t been bad; it just doesn’t look elite on paper in terms of stars and ratings. However, the Sooners are doing things their way. They don’t care what a recruiting site says. When you think of it that way, and the fact that they have gotten almost every single recruit they want, besides a few here and there, then yes, they are doing well.
Still, it’s fair for fans to be upset, especially after losing Davian Groce to Florida last week after being the favorite to land him all summer long. That loss is tough because Oklahoma needed a second wide receiver in the class to pair with Daniel Odom.
Luckily, the Sooners have the 2027 class to make up for the mistake. They’re already sending out offers to wide receivers, too.
Sooners send offer to Zerek Sidney
Zerek Sidney, a 2027 wide receiver from Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Arizona, is a four-star wide receiver in the class of 2027, who’s a pretty good route runner, has reliable hands, and a great ability to make tough catches. In his 2024 sophomore season, he had 45 catches for 591 yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 games, and that should only get better in his junior season.
At 6 feet and around 160-175 pounds, Sidney has drawn more than 27 Division I offers from top programs like Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, USC, Oklahoma, and Arizona State. Arizona State leads the race to recruit him with a 45.5% chance, followed by USC at 20.4%, per On3’s predictions, which makes a ton of sense considering he’s in the area, and ASU head coach Kenny Dillingham is turning that program around.
Sidney has visited schools like USC, Notre Dame, and Texas. Last week, he received his offer from Oklahoma, even though they aren’t in his area.
