Sooners once again have what one of their biggest rivals wants from them for four years in a row now
The Oklahoma Sooners took home the Bedlam Trophy by beating Oklahoma State.
Once upon a time, the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys had one of the biggest rivalries in college football. Despite what the all-time stats say about the rivalry, it’s one of the best there is — the two don’t like one another, not even a bit. They call this Bedlam. With the Sooners’ move to the SEC, OU can’t find time on its schedule for the Pokes anymore, at least not anytime soon.
However, the two do still play in basketball. And, not only do the Sooners own the football side of things, as of late, they own the basketball side of things, too. OU has won the last four meetings between the two teams. On Saturday, that fourth-straight one came by way of handing the Pokes their first loss of the season.
And, they kept the Bedlam Trophy, which Oklahoma State obviously wants from OU.
Oklahoma ended the Cowboys’ undefeated season
The Pokes came into this game as one of the better teams in the country that many haven’t yet watched. They were underrated in a way, as they weren’t ranked in the top-25, but yet, they hadn’t lost up until that point. Oklahoma had recently struggled against Arizona State, losing by a blowout. Beating the Pokes on Saturday didn’t seem like something that favored the Sooners.
“I thought OSU made a great run,” Sooners head coach Porter Moser said after the win. “They got their crowd into it. They made a great run. Our huddles coming out of there, I thought we responded to every punch. I thought both teams played unbelievably hard. Both teams played well. I thought the way they fought — there should be no regrets about effort or toughness on either side. That was a hard-fought rivalry game.”
The Sooners were able to win on the backs of Xzayvier Brown’s 21 points, Nigel Pack’s 18 points, and a great team rebounding effort, which saw OU have a 10-rebound advantage. Oklahoma did everything right in this game except for the turnovers. That’s what got them that beautiful trophy back.
Oklahoma really needs to use this game to get its season back on track, as we all thought it could be. They’re 7-3 now, and the season is far from over. The rest of their non-conference games are pretty easy, too. So, they should use this time wisely to get better in the areas they feel they need to before their first conference game against the Ole Miss Rebels comes up very soon.
