The Oklahoma Sooners have already lost a handful of players to the transfer portal before it’s even opened. On Jan. 2, they can begin adding players via the transfer portal and have until Jan. 16 to do so. If there’s one position they need to add more competition to, it’s the offensive line room, where they could add a legacy player.

Sooners should look into legacy player Lucas Simmons

Oklahoma is set to lose a few offensive linemen. Days before the transfer portal opens, Isaiah Autry-Dent, Troy Everett, and Jacob Sexton are the only three who have announced their entry into the portal. Two others, Febechi Nwaiwu and Derek Simmons, are likely to depart via the draft or graduation.

Oklahoma has Deacon Schmitt and Noah Best coming in, both of whom are four-star offensive linemen who are versatile and can play almost anywhere. So, Oklahoma still needs some competition in the room. Adding Simmons, who has enormous potential and hasn’t had the best chance to showcase that potential, would be great.

The Florida State Seminoles did not have a good season last year. They improved from 2024, winning a few more games, but it was still just really, really bad. However, Simmons had some bright spots at times.

According to Pro Football Focus, Simmons only played 81 total offensive snaps and didn’t allow a single pressure in 81 pass blocking snaps. Simmons may or may not even take a look at Oklahoma, for all we know. However, we cannot count them out right now.

Simmons’ father, Able Simmons, played at Oklahoma back in the day. Lucas Simmons, as a legacy player, could help OU land a guy who can compete for a starting role or play a key role as a depth player on an offensive line that will be very young next season. The 6-8, 310-pound OL would be a great fit.
