The 2024 offseason has been a chaotic one for the Oklahoma Sooners, with an active transfer portal cycle, two coordinator searches, and two recruiting periods. With things finally settling down until the spring portal opens up, it's time to take a look at the 2025 roster as the Sooners look to turn their fortunes around in year two of their SEC tenure.

Who are some defensive players for the Sooners who could enjoy breakout seasons in 2025 and help Oklahoma get back to their winning ways?

3 Sooners who can be a breakout star on defense in 2025

DT David Stone

The former five-star had a relatively quiet season while working as part of the Sooners' rotation at defensive tackle, but he made an impact in the limited snaps he played. Stone produced seven pressures and a sack as well as multiple run stops while playing less than 100 snaps his freshman season.

Now as he enters his second season with the team and has another year of coaching and conditioning under his belt, I'd expect Stone to become even more of a force for the Sooners. The talent is there.

LB Samuel Omosigho

Omosigho bounced from inside linebacker to Cheetah last season as the Sooners tried to manage the Kendal Dolby injury, but seems likely to stick around at inside linebacker this season. With Danny Stutsman off to the NFL and Lewis Carter transferring away, the linebacker room needs reinforcements.

Omosigho was a valuable player in the Sooners' rotation last season, but I'd expect him to be even more impactful with more playing time in 2025.

EDGE PJ Adebawore

I think that PJ Adebawore is the Sooners' most physically gifted talent on the entire roster, but injuries have limited his impact and growth every season. However, he's still made plenty of plays when he does get on the field. It just hasn't translated to a full-time spot yet thanks to the quality play of R Mason Thomas and Ethan Downs. However, Downs has graduated, leaving a starting defensive end spot open.

If Adebawore can stay healthy, the sky is the limit for what he can do on the football field. He can be a game-changer for the Sooners with his tools, he just has to put it all together and stay on the field.
