Oklahoma Sooners now know which 3 rivals they’re going to be seeing every single year in the SEC
The Oklahoma Sooners are going to be playing Texas, Missouri, and Ole Miss every year for the next four years.
About a month ago, the SEC announced that teams would receive an extra conference game and that every team would play three teams every year for the next four years, while the remaining conference games would change. Of course, with the Oklahoma Sooners being a new SEC team, there were some big questions.
Now, we knew that the Texas Longhorns would be one because that’s one of the biggest rivalries of all time, if not the biggest one. The other two were questions, but they were revealed on Monday. The Oklahoma Sooners will play the Longhorns, the Missouri Tigers, and the Ole Miss Rebels every single year for the next four years, according to On3.
After four years, those are subject to change.
Sooners got a decent draw for their three rivals
It’s important which three rivals are the hardest or easiest. This is the SEC, and we pretty much know which teams will be consistently good, which will be consistently bad, and which will be tough opponents, despite not being a top dog in the conference.
The Auburn Tigers face the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs every year, so they may have the hardest schedule in the SEC. The Tennessee Volunteers get to play Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Alabama every year, which may be the easiest.
As for Oklahoma, it’s right in the middle. Missouri can easily have a bad year. Right now, they’re good, but historically, they are a bad football program. In that rivalry, Oklahoma owns the all-time record by a wide margin. With Ole Miss, there is always a chance that head coach Lane Kiffin could leave to go elsewhere, and the program could go back to being average or even below average. Heck, even this year, they don’t look amazing despite the high ranking.
And then there is Texas, where either team could win the rivalry game any given year. And, before these last two years, Texas was in a bad place and not a great football team. That could always happen again, as they look beatable this season, too.
This was a fairly good draw for the Sooners, but there are some fans who wanted the Arkansas Razorbacks for regional purposes and the LSU Tigers.
