The second game in the recently revived college football video game series, College Football 26 (or CFB26, for short), has been met with tremendous excitement based on early reviews. The first game, released last year, was a resounding success, and the sequel seems even more promising.
As part of their efforts to drum up excitement and buzz ahead of the game's release in a few short weeks, EA has released ratings for several of the top players in the game. The Oklahoma Sooners had their top 10 players released as part of that announcement.
Their highest-rated players are:
- QB John Mateer: 91 OVR
- RB Jaydn Ott: 90 OVR
- SAF Robert Spears-Jennings: 89 OVR
- DE R Mason Thomas: 89 OVR
- CB Eli Bowen: 88 OVR
- WR Deion Burks: 88 OVR
- DT Gracen Halton: 87 OVR
- LB Kip Lewis: 87 OVR
- DT Damonic Williams: 87 OVR
- RB Jovantae Barnes: 86 OVR
Some players did not opt in to participate in the game, so it's very likely that a few players who should be on here, such as OT Derek Simmons, weren't included.
Mateer checks in tied for fifth place for the best quarterback in the game. He is tied with South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers and Miami's Carson Beck and is ranked just behind Clemson's Cade Klubnik, LSU's Garrett Nussmeier, Penn State's Drew Allar, and Arizona State's Sam Leavitt.
I think the biggest surprise here is that R Mason Thomas didn't cross a 90 overall rating. Thomas dominated SEC competition last season and proved himself to be one of the best pass rushers in the country, and has put himself in the first-round conversation, according to several NFL Draft analysts. To see him that low is fairly surprising.
Overall, they identified most of the top players on the Sooners accurately. I would hazard a guess that by the end of the season, PJ Adebawore and David Stone will have put themselves up there as well.
Why Oklahoma’s ‘different’ style of recruiting and culture under Brent Venables has appealed to so many players
As soon as Brent Venables assumed the role as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, he immediately brought in an entirely new culture to the Sooners. Nicknamed The SOUL Mission, Oklahoma's new culture is driven by faith and an honest approach, something the new staff isn't afraid to show and demonstrate to players. This approach […]
