Cheshire Academy (Conn.) quarterback Keegan Croucher spoke with Rivals’ Chad Simmons this week about an early pecking order for his recruitment. The 2027 prospect has plenty of time for a decision, but as of today there are three programs sticking out for the 6-foot-3, 185 pound prospect.
Croucher tells Simmons he is currently focused the most on the Ole Miss Rebels, Oregon Ducks, and Penn State Nittany Lions.
“There’s no order right now,” Croucher said. “They’re all doing a great job. Those three schools are all pretty similar, but they each have their differences.”
Keegan Croucher gave Chad Simmons the rundown on each finalist, too.
“I’ve been close with their coaching staff for a while now,” said Croucher – discussing Penn State. “It’s close to home, and I like what they’re doing at the quarterback position.
“I’ve gotten really close to the coaching staff in the past six months. I’ve gone down there twice, including a four-day visit. I really like what they’ve done with their offense,” said Croucher – talking about Lane Kiffin’s program. “The addition of coach Joe [Judge] last year — having that NFL guy with experience and knowledge — is something colleges don’t usually get.
“They reach out a ton and are really pushing hard for me. I’ve only been there once, so I’m excited to get back for a game,” Croucher said about Oregon. “What coach Stein has done with the offense and the QBs — I’m really excited about that.”
Keegan Croucher is set to take fall visits to all three.
“I will be at Ole Miss for the LSU game (Sept. 27), then at Penn State on Nov. 8 to see them play Indiana and I will wrap it up with a trip to Oregon to see them play USC (Nov. 22).
“I want to get to all three of those games. They’re waiting for me, they’re really pushing hard for me, and they’re not going to take any other quarterback besides me.”
It’s very, very early but one source told me he likes where Ole Miss sits currently. The hire of Joe Judge, as Croucher alluded to, has really resonated with him and his family. Judge has taken over the recruitment and along with Charlie Weis, Jr., and Kiffin, Croucher sees real opportunity in Oxford.
It also doesn’t hurt the most recent quarterback at Ole Miss, Jaxson Dart, was taken in the first round and plays for the New York Giants now.
“I can commit any time, but most likely after the season,” Croucher said. “The biggest thing when I commit is who I have the best relationship with and where I get the best development as a player. I want a place that feels like home.”
